Powder Springs Police Chief Charlie Sewell, who is on the board of directors of the Cobb Elder Abuse Task Force, joined Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and other advocates for the elderly as the Governor signed HB 899 into law.
The bill was an Act to amend Code Section 31-7-12.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to unlicensed personal care homes, so as to provide for criminal penalties for owning or operating an unlicensed personal care home; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes

This new law is intended to aid the nearly 5 million seniors who are victims of elder abuse and are robbed of up to $3 billion annually.
