Operations Division

The Operations Division is the largest division of the Powder Springs Police Department. Major Michael Cochran is responsible for its day-to-day operations. The Operations Division encompasses: Patrol, Training, Community Outreach, and Quality of Life Units. The division is comprised of 1 major, 4 lieutenants, 4 sergeants, and 14 police officers. There are 2 shifts: day watch and morning watch. Officers assigned to these watches work 12-hour shifts from either 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

Uniformed patrol officers are typically the first responders to any dispatched or self-initiated incident. Officers on Patrol:

  • Respond to domestic disturbances, thefts, burglaries, robberies, etc.
  • Deal with a host of high-stress situations and crimes
  • Perform traffic stops and investigate traffic accidents
  • Enforcing local, state, and federal laws

Training and Community Outreach officers are responsible for:

  • Continuing education for department Officers
  • Firearms Training for Officers
  • Community events such as:
    • CPA – Citizens Police Academy
    • CAP – Citizens and Police
    • Bridge the Gap
    • Women’s Self Defense
    • Citizens Training in various topics
    • National Night Out

The Quality of Life Unit took the place of Code Enforcement. This unit is responsible for:

  • Enforcing all City Ordinances
  • Responding to call for service when patrol is unavailable
  • Enforcing traffic laws
  • Enforcing local, state, and federal laws
